CREATE & CULTIVATE DIGITAL SUMMER CAMP 2020: How Can I Be More Productive?

As a featured speaker at Create & Cultivate Digital Summer Camp 2020, Whitney fielded questions from attendees on how to increase their productivity and focus on things that are important to them.

Create & Cultivate is an online platform for women who want to create and cultivate the career of their dreams. Summer Camp is an annual summit hosted by Create & Cultivate that includes panel discussions, workshops, and networking. Whitney was featured during the Mentor Power Hour where she was asked to share advice with attendees based on her experience as a successful entrepreneur.

How can I be more productive?

Whitney’s clients often come to her because they’re burnt out and pulled in so many directions that they can never get everything done. Her key to productivity is focus. She said that there are different levels of focus in your work: big goals, priorities, and specific tasks.

  • Big goals: Many people don’t think about their biggest goals during the things they’re doing day-to-day because they don’t have a clear vision for their life. Whitney learned the importance of focusing on big goals in every aspect of her life from her personal experience of wanting to run a successful business, have the financial freedom to travel, and be highly involved as a mom to her daughter.
  • Priorities: Whitney explained that setting clear goals helps us figure out the next level: our priorities. Once you know what your biggest goals are, you can make sure that you’re doing what you need to do to reach the goal you’re focused on. By narrowing the scope, you can increase your productivity.
  • Daily tasks: When you have clarity on big goals and priorities, you can decide what needs your focus on a daily or weekly basis. Are the tasks you’re doing aligned with your priorities and helping you achieve your most important goals? Instead of getting bogged down by lower-priority items, you can focus on spending time on the things you need to do to get where you want to be.

Whitney encouraged attendees to take the time to define the big goals, important priorities, and key daily tasks in their life. By getting clarity around your most important goals and figuring out the pathway to achieve them, you can recognize which priorities will help you get where you need to go, explained Whitney. Figure out which daily and weekly tasks fall under your highest priorities, so you can focus your time and energy on the things that truly matter to you.
